Snippets of Malaysian Life

On my recent visa run to Penang, Malaysia (Pinang), I had many interesting encounters and experiences.

I wrote about a few of them in my article, "slices of Malaysian life, " and I was going to call this part two, but decided only the term "clip", so you can get a better feel for what Pinang, Malaysia is like.

Quickly, the people are friendly, polite, mostly Muslims, many of whom speak English very well

.

I spent some time in conversation with a group of university students to find out what their hopes and dreams. All members of this group were studied graphic design.

This group of 11 students share a similar origin. Their mothers and fathers did and they all had at least one brother or sister. All of them spoke English very well and were full of smiles. (Maybe it was my charming personality .)

is by no means any of them feel rich, but they all had cell phones and they were all dressed like any other student would dress, sort-of-the hip, with a little edge or flair. few of them sported braces.

I'll say, and I can not emphasize this enough, they were all very polite

.

There are a lot of manufacturing technology in Malaysia. Amphenol, Maxtor, and Intel are all there, but the country is not really known for design time in New York, Hong Kong and Paris.

I asked: "Are there that many graphic design position in Malaysia, so that when you graduate, you can easily find a job ?"

The response was great, "NO !"

"So why study design ?"

They all admitted that their "dreams" are moving to another country, and Australia has been mentioned several times.

My question is, what the universities say their students

?

there are many jobs waiting for them abroad?

Are they aware of the problems of immigration and work permits?

Or, as many young people, they are trapped in a dream of greener grass on the other side of the fence?

My suggestion was twice?

You never really make any "real money" working for someone else, and maybe they should seriously consider teaming up with one or two of their colleagues and create their own "business world ."

Our conversation went on about the technology, flash memory, and the latest IBM technology called Race Track.

addresses the future for us all is the planet Earth and the boundaries that limit us, one day it will be there, because the communication and technological breakthroughs.

I told them that P.C. did not exist when I was in college and not MTV. Their jaws dropped in disbelief when I told them that the technology already exists that will allow them to use a computer that has no physical keyboard, but allows you to type lit a virtual keyboard on any surface.

Some of the charm of the city of Pinang is a bicycle rickshaw driver and their well-worn wagon. The drivers look well worn, but for very little money, in the heat, they will give you a lift to wherever you want to go, just not be in a hurry.

, sometimes you have to be a little daring and try some of the street vendor cuisine. I opted for the hamburger and hotdog stand.

I'm still amazed how food is handled throughout the world. In the U.S., there are probably too many precautions, but it certainly is not the case in Malaysia.

buns were taken from the package, bare hands, and cut, followed by a series of onion, and assortment of spices.

Maybe it's because the world lives on salt, sugar and fat (think of it, before you deny it), but they were good and not too meaty.

The cost is RM 1.80 for each regular dog and RM 2.50 for the egg on top of the dog. (About $ 1.25 for three .)

Mind you, I could eat this every day, but they are delicious.

I washed it all with some canned another new experiences. drink called 100 PLUS MINUMAN ISOTONIK

I chose the regular flavor, which is lemon-lime beverage tastings, but there were other flavors like tangerine. It is the product of Fraser & Neave, aka F & N. Think of it as carbonated drinks like Gatorade.

and the like, Red Bull, Gatorade, and a range of other beverages, it takes a little time to get used to the taste, but it washes dogs just fine.

If you need a place to get away and just read, write, and relax, I suggest Pinang, Malaysia.

There are tall buildings, but not too much just ruin the charm of the city. Great weather, cheap accommodation, and friendly people can add up to a few days just daydreaming about the next tourist destination, perhaps my hometown: Bangkok

.
